Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation on the form of a monitored topsoil strip was undertaken during groundwork associated with the wind turbine bases. A watching brief was undertaken during groundwork associated with the cable trenches. The site lies within an extremely rich archaeological landscape which contains Heritage Assets dating to the Neolithic period. A series of two visits were made to monitor two turbine bases which were 5.8m by 5.8m. Within the base of the turbine base trenches was natural which was an angular to sub rounded chalk cobbles and fragments. Above this was a soft mid brown silty subsoil, then the topsoil. Cable trench one connected the two turbines bases and was 140m long, 0.40m wide and 1m deep. The stratigraphy was the same as in the turbine bases. Cable trench two was in an area with no ground covered therefore the route of the cable trench was field walked however no finds were revovered. The trench was approximately 160m, 0.40m wide and 1m deep. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified.
