Abstract: |
A geophysical survey was carried out by Archaeological Services Durham University between 27 and 31 March 2014 for URS of the currently open ground south of Laverock Hall Road on the southwestern side of Blyth in advance of the proposed residential development of the area. An area of 8.4ha was surveyed in two areas by gradiometers with readings taken at 0.25m intervals in zigazg traverses separated by 1.0m in a series of 30 by 30m grids. This revealed a possible soil-filled ditch or boundary feature and areas of the former ridge and furrow cultivation of the ground. A concentration of modern rubble or land fill was detected in the eastern part of the larger area, whilst anomalies reflecting land drains were also detected in both areas. |
