Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief followed by a strip and map exercise was undertaken at Goat Wharf, Brentford High Street between 19th June and 28th August 2012. The site fronted Brentford High Street to the north and sloped to the river Thames to the south. Dateable archaeological activities ranged from the prehistoric to the 20th century. The earliest evidence was a prehistoric ditch was noted on the high gound in the north of site. medieval evidence was confined to a pottery sherd recovered from a dumped deposit. Buildings from the 18th and 19th century were recorded along the front of the high street. A natural of brickearth deposits and river silts was recorded over river gravels. |
