Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out by two trial trenches on land adjacent to Ivy House Farm Mellis Road Gislingham Suffolk, on the 25th - 26th of June 2015. Two linear trenches 10.00m long x 1.8m wide were excavated to cover the footprint of the single dwelling and a further trench to cover the new driveway. A single linear ditch, containing no dating evidence, was located. The direction of the ditch, towards the road and its small size was interpreted as a property boundary and probably medieval in date. A further feature was a foundation wall for a building; this building is shown on Hodskinson's map of 1783. The brick sample from this feature appears to be post-medieval, possibly 18th century in date. |
