Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the construction of a solar farm. An aerial photographic survey and geophysical survey was carried out prior to the evaluation. The aerial photographic survey did not show any pre-modern features but the geophysical survey did identify a series of linear anomalies in the western half of the survey area along with three curvilinear anomalies possibly representing ring ditches. The evaluation identified two isolated prehistoric pits towards the north-eastern area. A concentration of later Roman features were uncovered towards the western area of the site and may continue north outside the development area. This comprised boundary ditches, enclosures and trackways. Pits postholes and well containing a partial articulated animal burial were also in this area. A juvenile inhumation accompanied by a small Greyware beaker and a miniature coarseware jar dated to the 3rd century were also uncovered. |
