Abstract: |
A standing building survey of a 19th -century farm steading was undertaken prior to its demolition to build houses. The U-plan stone steading was largely intact although obscured by modern infill buildings of concrete and steel. Although an estate plan of 1780 shows buildings on the site, the steading did not appear to be earlier than the 19th century. A horse mill is shown on the 1867 OS map beside the W range and blocked openings in the wall indicate the position of the mill. Cart bays and a former chaumer were also identified. |
