Abstract: |
An historic building survey was undertaken by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) of the historic farm buildings at Measham Fields Farm, Measham, Leicestershire on the 17th of May 2013 and 20th March 2014. The farmstead is likely to date to the late 18th century and have been settled following the enclosure of the common fields of Measham parish. The survey covered the farmhouse and a range of single storey loose-boxes which appear to have been originally constructed with 'jumb' or 'gob' bricks, an oversized type of brick made locally by Joseph Wilkes between 1784 and 1803. Later modifications to both the house and range of loose-boxes have limited the architectural merit of the buildings. The report and archive will be deposited with Leicestershire Museums under Accession Number X.A167.2013. |
