Abstract: |
Between the 6th to 8th of October 2011 Oxford Archaeology East, assisted by members of the Eltisley Local History Society, pupils from Hills Road Six Form College, The Perse School Archaeology group and children from Newton Primary School, carried out a test pit archaeological investigation within the moated enclosure at Manor Farm Eltisley. Manor Farm, Eltisley, is a Scheduled Monument of National Importance. This was the first part of the English Heritage funded Eltisley Moats Project, which is looking at the relationship between the moated sites in and around the historic village of Eltisley, Cambridgeshire. The excavation of 15 test pits revealed evidence for human activity spanning the last two thousand years, including the remains of the earlier medieval manor which stood on the site. |
