Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Landmark Planning on behalf of Milner Arable to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land off Main Street in Stanton-under-Bardon, Leicestershire to support a planning application for a residential development. The site lies within an area of archaeological potential, to the east of the historic core of the medieval village and to the west of a former medieval manor, Horsepool Grange. The line of a Roman road passes nearby to the northeast of the site. Five trenches were excavated in the proposed development area in order to provide further information upon the nature and extent of the archaeological resource. A total of six undated features of low and local archaeological significance were encountered during the evaluation, these comprised a pit, three gullies and two southeast northwest aligned linears possibly representing a ditched trackway or remains of a ridge and furrow system. |
