Abstract: |
In August 2014 Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by Northumbrian Water Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief of a service trench excavated prior to the installation of approximately 2.08km of water pipe between East Lodge and Threefords, Northumberland. The route of the water pipe trench was located within the vicinity of the henge sites at Milfield South Henge and Coupland Henge (SAM ND505). The excavated service trench truncated the eastern extent of the southern ditch associated with Milfield south Henge. Two c.2m wide ditches or pits were identfied within the east and west facing sections of the service trench. The possibility exists that the two pits/ditches may be of Anglian or prehsitroic date. |
