Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during ground-works for a student residential development at 22-24 Orwell Place on the site of the recently demolished Plumb Centre. This area was the site of the former City Roads Stone Depot, which is depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1896. Several fragmentary wall lines, concrete surfaces and ceramic drains were uncovered, all of which appeared to relate to the early 20th century development of the site. Also uncovered were two stone box drains. These may have related to drainge of the former stone depot or drainage within the grounds of the former West Dalry House depicted on Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1853 and 1885. M Kirby 2015 |
