Abstract: |
This report presents the results of archaeological evaluation and excavation of land at The Millworks, High Street, Brasted, Kent. The archaeological evaluation was commissioned by CgMs Ltd on behalf of their client to assess the archaeological potential of the site prior to the construction of a residential area (planning reference SE/06/02188). The evaluation took place in September 2007 with eight trial trenches, totalling 191m, and seven geo-archaeological test pits being excavated. Archaeological features were found in trenches 1 and 8, to the southeast of the land to be redeveloped. These features comprised a ditch (Trench 1) and three pits (Trench 8). The excavation that resulted from the discovery of these features focussed on defining these and any associated features. The excavation was approximately 225m2 and revealed a series of features that have been dated to the 13th to 15th centuries and are typical of back plots of a medieval street frontage. |
