Abstract: |
Excavations beneath the now-demolished property known as 'The Old Thatches' revealed the remains of a 12th to 14th century possible smithing area with furnace base, cooling pit and mettalled working platform/surface. There was also evidence for a post-built structure comprising postholes and foundation slots. A ditch located at the west end of the site indicated that the later structure had been positioned over a (by then) disused field boundary. |
