Abstract: |
A geophysical (magnetometer) survey, covering 13 hectares, was carried out on agricultural land south of Walland Farm, near Bideford, Devon in advance of the determination of a planning application for a proposed 3.9MW Solar PV Development. Anomalies have been identified which correspond to the 19th century and later agricultural landscape as depicted on historical mapping including extensive areas of magnetic 'noise' suggestive of attempts to improve the waterlogged land. A former trackway has been identified which is shown on a tithe map of 1841 and may be of local historical interest. On the basis of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential of the site is thought to be low. |
