Abstract: |
Machine excavation of a foundation raft and two drainage soakaways revealed stratified Roman deposits up to 1.4m below ground level. The main foundation raft area revealed no archaeological evidence as it only penetrated the surface by 0.5m. The two soakaways revealed two ditches and at least two pits of probable Roman date. These subsequently sealed other layers/features that contained large quantities of Roman artefacts including pottery, bone, oyster shell and metalic objects. |
