Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundworks at East London Mosque, 45 Fieldgate Street, London Borough of Tower Hamlets E1 (NGR TQ 3435 8162). The monitoring was carried out for a period of three days on the 26th and 27th August, and on the 5th September 2008. The work was commissioned by Piercehill Quantity Surveyors on behalf of their client, Bamfords Trust Plc. Three geotechnical test-pits were excavated by Ground Engineering under archaeological supervision.. In addition, two boreholes were excavated, but archaeological monitoring of these was not required. No archaeological cut features were uncovered during the investigations and only Test Pit 2 contained finds, all of which date to the post-medieval period. |
