Abstract:
This report presents the results of a desk-based assessment, walkover survey, and historic visual impact assessment carried out by South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) on land at Higher Goonamarth Farm, St. Mewan, Cornwall in advance of the construction of a 50m (77m to tip) wind turbine. The proposed turbine would be installed on land that belonged to Higher Goonamarth Farm, within fields just outside the historic medieval core of that farm. In 1838 this land belonged to the Trevanion Family, and thus probably belonged to the Manor of Treverbyn. The farm lies within a landscape devastated by the modern china-clay industry, within the uplands overlooking St Austell. There are four Grade I and nine Grade II* Listed buildings or groups of buildings within 10km of the site that fall within the ZTV, together with 18 Grade II Listed buildings or groups. There are 17 relevant Scheduled Monuments 10km. There are further designated assets, primarily Grade II Listed buildings and Conservation Areas, which fall outside of the ZTV.
