Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during a geotechnical investigation ahead of construction of a mixed use development. The majority of the features identified related to post-medieval mining activity. This included five mine shafts, one of which was previously unrecorded, and ten surface working pits, the majority following the lines of lodes. Several small pits of unknown function but clearly related to the mine workings were also identified. Two former hedge boundaries known from historic mapping were also identified. |
