Abstract: |
Border Archaeology Ltd was instructed to undertake a programme of Archaeological Field Evaluation with respect to the proposed demolition of the existing football club buildings and structures followed by residential development at Stanford Association Football Ground (AFC) Kettering Road Stamford Lincolnshire PEJ 2JS (NGR: TF 029 065). The site would appear to lie within the SE part of the precinct of the medieval nunnery of St Michael (PRN 30617) (NGR: TF 027 064), which was founded c. 1155 by William de Waterville, Abbot of Peterborough, as a cell of Peterborough Abbey.. However, despite its history, and the location on high, relatively level ground, the project area was void of both conclusive archaeological features and layers. |
