Abstract:
The evaluation revealed the presence of 32 ditches, one of which was re-cut, a pit, a possible dew pond and a possible stake-hole. However, at least two of the ditches represented late Post-medieval/Modern field boundaries and one was the result of Modern ploughing. In general, the features were fairly well distributed across the majority of the evaluated area and most likely represent relic field systems, which are at present undated due to the lack of artefactual evidence. A total of four features appear archaeological in nature. Pit [102] may represent localised quarrying and is probably related to the small group of pits present in the northern part of the study area, which were highlighted during the geophysical survey. Ditch [404] was substantial in size and yielded a single sherd of 14th to 15th century pottery, but was not picked up by the geophysical survey. Ditch [1204] and re-cut [1206] was indicated in the geophysical survey and was definitely archaeological in nature, but remains undated. Possible stakehole [814] was also undated. Due to a lack of artefactual material, the identified deposits remained poorly dated and the archaeological potential of the site is low to medium
