A scoping report was prepared by AB Heritage for a site at Desborough Airfield. Preliminary desk-based research identified a large number of heritage environment records within the proposed 500m primary study area. The need for a heritage assessment of above and below ground archaeological features, taking into account the position of the project site upon the Second World War RAF Airfield was identified. It was also suggested that additional survey in the form of geophysical survey and targeted trial trenching may also be required to assess the extent, preservation, and significance of any remains within the project boundary. An Archaeological Baseline Assessment was then undertaken. Based on the known historical development of the site and study area, the results of this assessment show that there has been activity in the area of the proposed development site from the Prehistoric to the Modern period, including 4 heritage features concluded to be of up to regional significance and 4 heritage features considered to be of negligible to locally significant. It has therefore been concluded that there is the potential for the recovery of known and unknown archaeological remains dating to all periods within the proposed development site, which may be of at least regional significance in relation to the Prehistoric and Roman settlement remains. | ||||||||||||
