Abstract:
AB Heritage Limited has been commissioned by Carl Turner Architects to produce a Historic Environment Desk-Based Assessment, in support of a forthcoming planning application, covering a proposed development at 71-79 Peckham High Street, Southwark, London, SE15 5RS. The potential for surviving archaeological deposits of prehistoric or Roman date is considered to be medium - low, for deposits of medieval and post-medieval date it is thought to be medium - high and for deposits dating to the modern period it is also considered to be medium - high. Should they survive, archaeological deposits dating from the prehistoric - modern periods are considered to be of local importance at most. It is recommended that a watching brief, to be undertaken during intrusive ground works associated with the proposed development, may mitigate against the damage or destruction of any archaeological deposits, should they survive within the boundary of the proposed development site. This recommendation will need to be approved by the Group Manager, Design and Conservation, Southwark Council (Michael Tsoukaris).
