Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained on the groundworks for a new residential dwelling and detached garage. The monitoring of the excavation of the house foundations identified a grouping or cluster of five undated ovular shaped pits, whose respective fills did not produce any finds. An undated north-south aligned gully was also identified, whose fill similarly did not yield any finds. It is considered that these archaeological features represented a series of rear refuse pits and the gully part of an associated contemporary property/land boundary pertaining to possible medieval or post-medieval properties that fronted onto North Street to the north. The monitoring of the detached garage did not identify any archaeological activity or finds. |
