Abstract: |
An archaeological targeted excavation on land at Junction 29, M5 Motorway, Clyst Honiton, Exeter, was carried out by AC archaeology during May 2011. This phase of work comprised the machine excavation of three 20m long and 3m wide trenches, excavated across the line a previously identified linear feature which contained the Iron Age pottery. Excavation of the three trenches confirmed the presence of a NW-SE aligned ditch in all trenches, with only later post-medieval finds recovered. A second linear feature was identified immediately to the east of similar date, with these likely to represent now infilled flanking ditches either side of a former hedgebank. An archaeological trench evaluation was carried out by AC archaeology on the site of a new maintenance compound at Exeter Science Park Drive South, Clyst Honiton, Devon. The evaluation comprised the machine-excavation of a single northwest-southeast aligned trench, measuring 30m long by 2m wide and located on the site of the proposed new compound. A single modern cable trench was present at the northwest end of the trench. No further archaeological features or deposits were present and no finds were recovered. |
