Abstract:
This report presents the results of an archaeological evaluation undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group on behalf of Miller Homes, on a land plot located at Clyde Avenue, Bothwellbank, Bothwell, South Lanarkshire. The evaluation consisted of the machine trenching of some 8000m², 8% of the available development area. This was reduced to 6200m² due to existing services within the area. The entirety of these works, notably the majority of the areas to the northern extent of the site could not be completed due to the presence of a gas pipe preventing access. All trenching was completed in the southern extent of the site. A walkover survey of a wooded area, not scheduled for development was also completed. No evidence of any structural features were observed at any point during the survey The proposed development was situated in an area of undulating pasture. With a notably steep bank on the Western extent requiring some of the trenches to be moved. A watching brief was later carried out due to limitations during the evaluation in the northern half of the development. No significant archaeological features or artefacts were recovered during the works.
