Abstract: |
NR 77878 91294 to NR 77837 91329 A watching brief was maintained on 20-21 February 2017 during the excavation of a trench for a power supply to a new EE mast some 500m east of the remains of Arichonan township (NR79SE 23). The settlement dates from 1654 and was abandoned some two centuries later. The trench ran from a pole on an overhead line, along a circuitous route up a steep slope. In addition, two earth wires were inserted, one in the cable trench and one in a separate trench extending 30m W of the pole. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the trenches although a possible burial cairn was noted to the W of the pole at NR 77863 91310. |
