Abstract: |
A staged programme of archaeological investigations was carried out at Monkerton. The site has been subject to previous geophysical survey and limited trial trench evaluation which identified mainly linear anomalies, along with a small sub-square enclosure. The linear features represent ditches associated with former boundaries of multi-phase field systems. The earliest ditches probably date to the late prehistoric period, with the remainder relating to historic field systems. The enclosure was dated to the late medieval or early post-medieval period. It is defined by a single ditch; no internal features were present and it is probably a stock enclosure. |
