Abstract: |
Excavation prior to sewer diversion works through the Kings of Wessex Academy. The proposed pipe trench passes through an area very close to the major excavation of the palace remains carried out in the early 1960s. An examination of the excavation report produced in 1979 by the site director, Philip Rahtz, indicates that the pipe trench could encounter at least four known archaeological features. These comprise two medieval buildings, a lime kiln and a boundary comprising a ditch and bank. |
