Abstract: |
Terrain Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of the proposed site of two new semi-detached dwellings in the garden of 20A Glyde Path Road, Dorchester. One trench was excavated across the area revealing deep deposits of eighteenth century quarry infill. The quarrying activity is likely to have been associated with lime burning, as the remains of a limekiln had been recorded just to the north of the site. Documentary evidence suggests that the quarry backfill may have been spoil from the construction of Dorchester Prison in 1789-95. |
