Three metal detecting surveys were undertaken of two fields to the immediate south-west of Barbachlaw Farm during 2005 and 2006 where part of the16th century Battle of Pinkie is believed to have taken place. This work was undertaken as part of a slavage exercise in advance what was believed to be imminent development. The survey identified an extensive and diverse assemblage of artefacts, representing a wide range of periods from the late medieval to the early modern period. B Simpson 2006

In September 2013, East Lothian Council Archaeology Service undertook a community excavation on the Green in Dirleton, as part of East Lothian Archaeology and Local History Fortnight. The project was organised with Gullane and Dirleton History Society. The excavation followed an earthwork survey carried out with Gullane and Dirleton History Society and a geophysical survey of the site undertaken by Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society in 2012. These surveys suggested that there were at least two buildings on the Green, that had disappeared by the time of Roy's map in 1750. The excavation uncovered one of the buildings, and showed that the other one did not exist. The building that was excavated appears to have been a substantial stone building, that was demolished in about the 15th or 16th century. A number of interesting artefacts were found during the dig, including several thimbles, an early 17th century pipe bowl and several coins including an 1895 silver thruppence. A number of sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from the demolition layers of the building. During the five days of excavation, 70 volunteers took part in the dig, nearly 400 people visited the site, and 40+ school children from Dirleton got involved. E Jones 2013.

An informal historic building survey and desk based research of the ruins at Old Hailes was undertaken by the East Lothian branch of the U3A Family History Group as part of an SMR Enhancement project. The archive is comprised of a report, a photographic contact sheet and a CD-ROM containing digital photographs of the project. The ruin comprises a single storey building (no south wall surviving) with three internal walls. Two small windows and the remains of a fireplace indicate the building was a dwelling.

In March 2014 East Lothian Council Archaeology Service undertook an archaeological investigation (clean and record) at St Andrew's Kirk, Gullane. In December 2013 the East Lothian Council Amenity Service constructed a new free standing pedestrian access into the church; the archaeological works were undertaken as part of the Scheduled Monument Consent for the works. An area 1.9m (N-S) by 1.4m had been excavated in front of the doorway to a maximum depth of 0.38m. Gravel and some of the excavated topsoil had been deposited into the trench to form the bedding for the steps. The archaeological investigation removed the re-deposited topsoil and gravel in order to record the stratigraphy exposed in the excavation of the trench. This revealed topsoil of dark brown sandy silt up to 0.28m deep over light brown silty sand subsoil. The subsoil was only exposed at the north end of the trench, the lower step. Both the topsoil and subsoil contained small fragments of bone and small stones. A number of disarticulated bones were recovered from the re-deposited topsoil and were reburied. No archaeological deposits had been disturbed by the works. Elizabeth Jones 2014.

On February 11, 2008, East Lothian Council Archaeology Service undertook a watching brief during groundbreaking works associated with the construction of an agricultural shed at Greystanes Field, Camptoun, East Lothian. The building works did not require planning permission, but as long cist burials had been found in this field in the past, it was decided that the Archaeology Service would monitor the soil stripping. The stripped area was a rectangle measuring 9m by 13m. No archaeological features or artefacts were encountered.
