Context One Archaeological Services Ltd (COAS) has been awarded the contract to undertake an archaeological programme of works comprising a written scheme of investigation (WSI), desk based research and an archaeological field evaluation up to and including a report, on an area of land at 1 The Manor House, Chapel Street, Holsworthy, Devon (centred on NGR SS 3436 0365). The programme of works has been commissioned and funded by Mrs N Horwood. The archaeological evaluation will form the first stage of a programme of archaeological works required Condition 6 of the planning consent issued by the Local Planning Authority (LPA).

Monitoring and recording during the exposure of pylon pad along a 10km length of overhead line between Frome, Somerset, and Trowbridge, Wiltshire

An archaeological Desk-Based Assessment was requested by the Local Planning Authority (West Devon Borough Council) on the advice of Ms Stephanie Knight (Archaeological Officer, Devon County Council) as a condition of granting planning permission to redevelop the Site for a new store (Planning reference: 12364/2008/TAV). The investigation represents an initial stage of archaeological works to determine the presence/ absence of archaeological activity on the Site, and to identify the scope and nature of any archaeological mitigation during the development. The evidence collated during the Assessment revealed the presence of 19th century industrial archaeology represented by a Bone Mill, which was present on the Site by at least 1895.

Standing Building Recording prior to demolition and redevelopment at 173-181 Brandy Row, Portland, Dorset

Context One Archaeological Services Ltd carried out an archaeological watching brief during groundworks at 21 Downleaze Road to Stoke Park Road, Bristol, (centred on NGR ST 56600 75200). The investigation was commissioned and funded by Wessex Water plc. The watching brief was requested by Mr Bob Jones (City Archaeologist, Bristol City Council), following a consultation request by Dr Richard Baker (Environmental Scientist, Wessex Water plc), as remains of a Roman road - Scheduled Ancient Monument No. AV88 - exists within the immediate area of the Site. No archaeological remains/deposits were observed during the course of the watching brief.

Archaeological Monitoring and Recording at 221 Castle Street, Portchester, Fareham, Hampshire

Context One Archaeological Services Ltd has been awarded the contract to undertake an archaeological watching brief up to and including an assessment report for groundworks relating to the extension of an existing Lidl food store at 34 North Street, Worthing, West Sussex. However no archaeological features or deposits were revealed during the course of the investigation.

Archaeological Monitoring and Recording associated with the change of use from office to 2 No. dwellings with erection of a single storey extension with raised garden and associated works. Both nos. 5 & 6 form part of The Crescent, a uniform terrace of four-storey properties built in 1807 on a greenfield site. The 1840 Tithe map for Taunton represents the terrace with small frontages and long rear gardens and by the late 19th century, many of the properties had rear extensions including nos. 5 & 6. There is evidence that the extensions to both nos. 5 & 6 were removed in the late 1960s/early 1970s. The Crescent is also located a short distance from the medieval town and town defences. Despite this potential, monitoring of development excavations revealed no archaeological activity and no finds were recovered.

Archaeological monitoring and recording of removal of contamiated soil at 5 Church Cottages, Williton, Somerset
