Trent and Peak archaeology was contracted by Framework Housing Association to carry out an archaeological evaluation, mitigation and watching brief on the corner of Friars Lane and St Rumbold Street (1-3 Friars Lane) in the centre of Lincoln. The intention of the investigations was to ascertain the depths, character and levels of preservation of archaeological remains, features and deposits ahead of potential disruption from the ensuing development. The remains of probable medieval wall foundations were revealed, sealed by layers of made-ground and midden material. An assemblage of medieval and early post-medieval ceramics was recovered from these layers, supporting the theory that this part of Lincoln had been abandoned during the 15th century. This abandonment appears to have continued until the 19th century, when remains of late 19th century buildings and activity were noted, cutting into the made-ground layers.

Trent and Peak Archaeology was contracted to conduct a watching brief on the site of a proposed development at 10 Wards Lane, Breaston Derbyshire. The site lies within the historic core of the village of Breaston and was judged to have an archaeological potential.

Trent and Peak Archaeology was commissioned by Mr J. Devaney to undertake an archaeological watching brief at 114 Belper Road, Derby, DE1 3EQ (National Grid Reference SK 34908 37548) (Fig. 1). The work comprised archaeological monitoring and recording during the excavation of a c.0.7m deep trench prior to the construction of a single story rear extension to the aforementioned dwelling as part of Derby City Council Planning Application DER/11/15/01434. The site is located within the Strutts Park Roman Fort Conservation Area (designated, 06/11/1991) and within an Archaeological Alert Area as defined by the City of Derby Local Plan (2017), where groundworks had the potential to impact archaeological deposits and features of Romano-British or Medieval date. Previous investigations in the Belper Road area have shown that significant Roman deposits can survive close to modern ground surfaces, particularly in gardens or undeveloped areas. Several small scale excavations in adjacent properties south of the PDA have recovered scatter finds including Samian finewares, structural remains and isolated ditched features dating to the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Groundworks did not reach a depth sufficient to impact upon any sub-surface archaeological remains. Archaeological remains may survive at the site at depths below that of the current development. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were recovered during the course of this watching brief.

Trent and Peak Archaeology (TPA) were commissioned by Lanpro Services to carry out an archaeological watching brief on land to the north of Huntingdon Street, Nottingham (centred on SK 5745 4056), ahead of planned residential development. The watching brief was undertaken between March and August 2019. The site consists of approximately 0.39ha of land fronting on to Huntingdon Street, approximately 0.5km to the north of the centre of Nottingham, and is bounded by Huntingdon Street to the west, and Great Freeman Street to the south-east. The site sits within an area previously dominated by terraced housing and a lace factory which date to the 19th century. Groundworks ranged in depth from 0.24m to 2.7m below ground level. Impact depths increased to the south in areas which corresponded to increased developmental related truncation. Monitoring of ground reduction in these areas revealed foundation walls, cellars, coal chutes and chimney stacks belonging to the terraced workers housing which formerly fronted Great Freeman Street. A single floor structure possibly related to the former lace factory was also identified. Sporadic deposits of subsoil and topsoil identified within the northern third of the site likely relate to the former workhouse garden, outlined within the northwestern corner of the site which is visible in Jacksons Map of Nottingham 1851 (Plate 16). No finds or features of archaeological significance were identified during the course of the watching brief. As all structural remains encountered during the course of monitored ground works corresponded with known above ground structures, these were not investigated further.

Trent and Peak Archaeology was commissioned by Derbyshire Properties (Estate Agents) Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief during the excavation of the foundations for three new dwellings at 132 Wagstaff Lane, Jacksdale, Nottinghamshire. The application (Ref: V/2018/0106) was submitted to Ashfield District Council, and granted conditional planning permission. An archaeological watching brief was maintained during all intrusive groundworks associated with the new development. A layer of re-deposited natural material was identified along with a layer of topsoil which contained debris associated with the demolition of a dwelling that was previously located on the site. No archaeological structures, deposits or features were recorded during the course of the watching brief. No finds were recovered during the course of the watching brief.

Trent and Peak Archaeology were commissioned by Mr and Mrs Stone to undertake an archaeological watching brief at 18 Chevin Road, Derby, DE1 3EX (National Grid Reference SK 34856 37267) (Fig. 1). The work was undertaken during the excavation of a trench for the construction of a single story rear extension to the aforementioned dwelling as part of Derby City Council Planning Application DER/03/17/00346. The site is located within the Strutts Park Conservation area (Designated, 06/11/1991) and within an Archaeological Alert Zone as defined by the City of Derby Local Plan (2017) approximately 66.8m above Ordnance Datum and is bounded by Chevin road to the west and residential properties to the north, east and south. No previous archaeological investigations have taken place within the immediate vicinity of the site. However, several excavations on Belper Road (immediately to the east of the proposed development site) have revealed high potential for archaeological deposits, features and artefacts relating to the Roman occupation of the area. It was therefore possible that any open cut trenching may have impacted upon archaeological features and deposits relating to the Roman occupation of the area. One pit [0008] was discovered at the west end of the wall footings trench however this did not provide any dating evidence. It has been concluded that all other identified deposits were the result of a natural formation processes. The majority of the trench for the outside wall footings was cut through natural alluvial clay. No significant archaeological evidence was discovered during the watching brief.

Trent and Peak Archaeology was commissioned by Mr John Goudie to carry out a watching brief, consisting of monitoring the excavation of foundation trenches, during the construction of an extension to his house. These works were undertaken in accordance with archaeological planning conditions attached to the development of the site.

Trent and Peak Archaeology was commissioned by Nottinghamshire County Council's Highways Department to undertake a Level 1 building record of an unlisted former hospital building, 30 Watson Road, Nottinghamshire (OS Grid Ref. SK 588622 78893) prior to its proposed demolition (Planning Application Nos 1/13/01372/CDM) as part of a scheme to build a new 8-bay bus station. 30 Watson Road is located close to the centre of Worksop, within the historic core of the town. Cartographic evidence indicates that it was built between 1920 and 1960. The architectural style of the building suggests that it was constructed in the inter-war period, most likely in the 1930s. It has undergone minor alterations since its construction including a number of the doorways being narrowed, the addition of a parapet and some internal divisions when it was converted into offices. It was a part of the Victoria Hospital which was opened in 1900 on the east side of Watson Road. The building and the contemporary block to the south effectively form a single unit comprising two buildings set around a courtyard with a garden to the rear which may have been a sanatorium for tuberculosis sufferers.

During November 2014 Trent and Peak Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief on behalf of Ms Victoria Marcer at 31 High Street, Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire. prior to the building of a garage to the rear of the property. The work was required as a condition of Charnwood Borough Council planning permission P/12/0986/2. The proposed development site lies within the historic core of Barrow upon Soar, first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Barhau. The earliest surviving building is the medieval Church of the Holy Trinity located to the north-east of the site. Extending down Beverage Street to the east are a number of post-medieval houses. Later buildings associated with the Midland Counties Railway which opened in 1840, are located to the south. The village has been linked to the production of lime since the medieval period. A limekiln is recorded to the south of the site on the 1884 Ordnance Survey map. Prehistoric through to Anglo-Saxon activity has been encountered within the parish. The former includes a Neolithic arrowhead which was discovered in a back garden to the north-west. Historic maps indicate that the site has remained largely unchanged since 1884. The principal alterations occurred between 1884 and 1921 when the wooded area to the rear of the property was removed. During this time additional small outbuildings were erected to the south-west of the house. By 1971 these buildings had been remodelled and had been removed completely by 2014. Despite the presence of significant archaeological remains within the vicinity of the development, the foundation trenches revealed no archaeological features or deposits with the exception of a former watercourse, or possible ditch, located in the western part of the site. It was north to south orientated and had become infilled by the publication of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1884.
