Investigation in the Ice House (Pit Room), The Keep, Castle Garth, Newcastle upon Tyne NE11RQ
A small excavation was carried out in deposits forming the floor of a late 18th-early 19th century Ice House, situated in the south-west angle of the 12th century Keep. The investigation aimed to establish if the Ice House had been dug through the foundations of the Keep, and if so did any pre-12th century features or deposits survive below, and to seek any evidence that the Ice House might have been formed out of a medieval mural chamber.

The Vicar's Pele, Corbridge, Northumberland, NE45 5AW NGR:9884964407. Report on the excavation of an Archaeological Test Pit, On behalf of Spence and Dower LLP for Mr. and Mrs. Cutler.
As part of investigation into the feasibility of providing toilet/washroom facilities within the Vicar's Pele, a 2m x 2m test pit was excavated in the south-west corner of the vaulted basement of the tower to establish the depth of foundations and if any earlier floor surfaces or other archaeological deposits and features survived. The test pit was excavated to a depth of 1.1m as specified by the client's architect, being the maximum depth at which the fall on any new waste pipe could connect to an existing external sewer. The test pit showed that ground level within the Pele had been significantly raised in later 19th and/or early 20th century with imported demolition rubble. In the test pit area, any earlier floor, features or deposits had been destroyed by a pit which extended down into the natural subsoil below the required depth of excavation. A small quantity of residual late 13th-14th century pottery was recovered.
