Isle of Man Ferry Terminal, Liverpool: Archaeological Building Recording
D. Sorapure
In August 2019 a Level 3 scheme of archaeological building recording was carried out by Place Services on behalf of the Isle of Man Government, on the site of the proposed Isle of Man Ferry Terminal. The Site was first developed as docks in 1821- 1824 when Prince's Dock and Prince's Basin were built to designs by John Foster. The development of further docks to the north occurred shortly after, including the adjacent Waterloo Dock, which was completed in 1836 to designs by Jesse Hartley. Further redevelopment followed in 1868, when the Prince's Basin was converted into a Half Tide Dock, with the addition of a triple lock system. Later developments in the mid-twentieth Century included the absorption of much of the triple lock system into the fabric of the new docks, when a gate was added from the River Mersey directly into West Waterloo Dock in 1948. The Site evolved over time to be able to cope with larger ships as well as changes in function, from predominantly the unloading and storage of trade goods, to the reliance on passenger services. The dockside infrastructure and features of historical interest were recorded during the survey and a phasing of the development of the docks was established, along with a typology of mooring bollards on the Site. No standing buildings remained on the Site.

This includes a scheme of archaeological building recording pertaining to a Foundry at Phoenix Place. The aim of this programme of recording is to provide a long-term sustainable record of remaining sections of historic foundry building within the Site prior to its redevelopment. This will secure the proper recording of buildings prior to their demolition. The aim is also to enhance, through site analysis and research, knowledge of the foundry which was once located here. The scheme of building recording aims: Provide a history of the buildings and the foundry which was once located here; Where information permits, the identification of chronological building phases and uses; and A Level 2 record of the structures identified.

Tidbury Green, Solihull - Heritage Desk-based Assessment
S Parker
A heritage assessment prepared by Waterman Energy, Environment and Design Ltd (Waterman EED) on behalf of Lioncourt Homes to support the submission of a planning application for development of the Site. This report concludes that the proposed development of the Site would not have an impact on any designated heritage assets or their settings. However, there are several non-designated heritage assets, all of which are of low significance, which could potentially be affected by proposals for development of the Site, namely: The Tidbury Farm cluster of buildings; Nearby Ancient Woodland; Assets related to the planned enclosures of the eighteenth centuries (including historic hedgerows and field boundaries); Evidence of medieval ridge and furrow; and Cropmarks visible on aerial photography of possible pre-historic date. The effect on the Tidbury Green Farm cluster of buildings can be minimised by sympathetic design of future proposals, which should be in keeping with the rural nature of the area, for example by using local materials and techniques, and by respecting the proportions of residential units in the area. The effect on the assets related to the planned enclosure dating to the eighteenth century, including field boundaries and historic hedgerows could also be minimised by retaining land units and integrating historic hedgerows into future proposals as far as possible. The effect on sub-surface heritage assets such as ridge and furrow and crop-marks of possible pre-historic date would be mitigated by a programme of archaeological evaluation to be negotiated with the Local Planning Authority, after the submission of a detailed planning application.
