Introduction

Historic Building Recording Survey at Blacksmith's shop Bank Bottom: Smithy viewed from the North
Historic Building Recording Survey at Blacksmith's shop Bank Bottom: Smithy viewed from the North

This collection comprises images from a historic building recording, undertaken by JB Archaeology Ltd. The location of the building recording was at a former Blacksmith's shop, Bank Bottom, High Street, Staithes. The building was recorded for its structure and fabric.

It was found to be built from around the beginning of the 19th century and potentially used up to the mid 20th century, before becoming derelict. The survey shows the former blacksmiths to be in a bad state with cantilevered brick courses. The building is also shown to be made from stone and interestingly re-used ship timbers.
