Introduction
This collection comprises of images from an historic building recording of barns at Pinfold Farm, Bagshaw, Derbyshire, commissioned and undertaken by Archaeological Research Services Ltd In January 2021. Planning permission has been granted for the proposed development at Pinfold Farm which would see the conversion of the barns into dwellings, with demolition of the later associated extensions. This historic building recording was required to assist in discharging condition 22 of the Peak District National Park Authority planning policy.
The Pinfold Farm site consists of two buildings, with the eastern barn a ruined structure, demolished in the mid-20th century. The western barn is a two storey vernacular building predominantly constructed of rough tooled gritstone ashlar. The historic portion of the building has a 'T' shaped footprint and features two lean-to extensions added in the mid-late 20th century. The western barn originated as a threshing barn, evidenced by the original large cart door, windowing door and flagstone floor. Archaeological monitoring and recording revealed remnants of the possible original flagstone floor of the eastern barn/ cottage, along with a buried topsoil in a former yard area to the north of the cottage.
The historic building recording provides a descriptive and photographic record of the barns and provides a comprehensive preservation by record of the buildings prior to development works taking place. The subsequent archaeological monitoring and recording successfully recorded any surviving archaeological deposits and structural remains prior to any development works taking place within the vicinity of the ruins of the eastern barn/ cottage.
