Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

This collection comprises images and a CAD file from a 16 trench archaeological evaluation as a condition of planning application 19/01278/FUL to redevelop the country estate of Brizes Park into residential accommodation. The work was undertaken by drp archaeology.

The site contains both a Scheduled monument and two Grade II Listed Buildings. drp archaeology had previously undertaken a Desk Based Assessment (December 2018) concluding that the site had the potential to reveal evidence for Medieval and Post-Medieval activity, especially relating to the existing 1720 Manor House and park, a potential earlier Manor House from 1498 and a scheduled moated site within the grounds. 15 trenches were excavated around the main building revealed a largely undisturbed geology of topsoil, subsoil and natural. Whilst 27 individual features were revealed within the trenches, they all related to modern activity (including two fence lines), except an undated linear. Whilst the evaluation has proved disappointing in terms of buried and unknown archaeological heritage associated with Brizes park and its history, it should be noted that the investigation has only targeted a small percentage of the 291,427m2 estate.
