This collection comprises site data (images, CAD and report) from an archaeological evaluation carried out by MOLA at Bedford Commercial Park, Marston Vale, Wootton, Bedfordshire. The work was commissioned by Bennimans Ltd, on behalf of their client. In accordance with the Written Scheme of Investigation (MOLA 2018), twelve c.50m long and two 25m long evaluation trenches were excavated on the site between the 19th and 28th October 2020.
This phase of the evaluation follows on from earlier phases of investigation and was intended to open up trenches that could not be accessed previously. The evaluation trenching identified disturbances in the ground produced by trees in the south and west of the site. These comprised possible hedge rows and tree boles. Along the eastern edge of the site, a number of ditches, probably for modern drainage purposes were also identified, along with one possible pit and one possible posthole.
To the north, one single post hole [7906] produced three sherds of pottery of undiagnostic shell tempered fabric. In the same broad area a pit, a gully terminus, and three ditches were recorded. Two of the ditches were parallel field boundaries which predated the boundaries showed in late-19th century cartographical evidence. A sample of medieval to modern construction building material and one single pottery sherd was retrieved from disturbed subsoil in the northernmost excavated trench.
