Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

This collection comprises documents, images, and spreadsheets related to archaeological trial trenching carried out by MOLA Headland Infrastructure at the Merck Sharpe Dome Receptor Site from 2017 to 2021.

Project Summary

Trial trenching was undertaken and carried out in accordance with specific guidance produced by HS2, namely the Technical Standard Specification for Historic Environment Investigations (HS2-HS2-EV-STD-000-000035), the Generic Written Scheme of Investigation: Historic Environment Research and Delivery Strategy (GWSI: HERDS) (HS2- HS2-EV-STR-000-000015) and the LS-WSI for Trial Trenching for Ecological Habitat Creation at the MSD site, Colne Valley (1EW02-CSJ-EV-PRO-S002-000002 Revision P01). Trial trenching was required to determine, as far as reasonably possible, the nature of the archaeological potential of the site. The objective of the investigation was to gain information about the archaeological resource to support an assessment of its character, extent, knowledge value and potential to contribute to specific objectives.

Re-Use Value Statement

This archive can be used independently and/or in in conjunction with the rest of HS2 datasets in order to inform the archaeological features and periods unearthed on this route as interpretations of landscape archaeology. This can also function as a guide to digital archiving for future infrastructure projects benefiting both the commercial sector and the research community.
