This collection comprises site records, images and reports from archaeological recording carried out by MOLA Headland Infrastructure at the Harefield to Southall Pipeline Diversion in Harefield, Hillingdon, Greater London during March 2018.
Archaeological recording was undertaken in accordance with specific guidance produced by HS2, namely the Technical Standard Specification for historic environment investigations (HS2-HS2-EV-STD-000-000035) and the Generic Written Scheme of Investigation: Historic Environment Research and Delivery Strategy (GWSI: HERDS) (HS2-HS2-EV-STR-000-000015). Archaeological recording was required to determine, as far as reasonably possible, the nature and potential of the archaeological resource within the Site and to indicate the need for further archaeological investigation (e.g. targeted excavation, palaeoenvironmental sampling etc.).
The archaeological recording methodology for the 48-inch gas main diversion aimed to understand how encountered archaeological assets relate to each other spatially, functionally chronologically and to indicate the need for further archaeological investigation
This archive can be used independently and/or in in conjunction with the rest of HS2 datasets in order to inform the archaeological features and periods unearthed on this route as interpretations of landscape archaeology. This can also function as a guide to digital archiving for future infrastructure projects benefiting both the commercial sector and the research community.
