This collection comprises images from historic building recording at Hendon Sidings undertaken by Archaeological Research Services between July and August 2021.

In March 2021 Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by the Port of Sunderland to conduct a schedule of archaeological works at Hendon Sidings, located adjacent to Prospect Row, Sunderland, in support of a planning application for a new commercial development (Planning Ref: 20/02296/LP3). Works pursuant to this development include the creation of new access to the north from Barrack Street, alterations to the southern access from Extension Road, along with the overall re-profiling and clearance of the site. Accordingly, from comments received previously, the archaeological brief has included the requirement to undertake historic building recording of remaining extant structures identified at the former sidings site.

The historic building recording provides a descriptive, drawn and photographic record of identified extant structures at Hendon Sidings, the Port of Sunderland. The recording has included the former steam locomotive coaling stage, the hopper wagon coal drop and a series of retaining walls and embankments which have served to form the site over time.
