This collection comprises site records (trench sheets, GIS data, and photos) produced during the test pitting carried out by MOLA Northampton and MOLA Headland Infrastructure at Sedrup Farm, Buckinghamshire in May 2022.
Works for HS2 were undertaken for forty three test pits (Test Pits 1- 43) between 9th and 20th May 2022, as a Change Control to Archaeological Recording work (C23043) on land immediately to the south at Sedrup Farm, Buckinghamshire. The Site code for these works was 1C22SEDCI.
Work was completed in accordance with the Project Plan (PP) for Archaeological Recording at Sedrup Farm and Land East of Bishopstone, Buckinghamshire, the Location Specific Written Scheme of Investigation (LSWSI) for Archaeological Recording at Sedrup Farm and Land East of Bishopstone, Buckinghamshire, and the Fieldwork Change Control Form A (FCCFA) for Construction Integrated Recording targeted at Pleistocene sand with micro faunal remains, at Sedrup Farm Buckinghamshire.
The aims of the recording were to assess the nature of the site’s Pleistocene resource, as well as its extent, preservation, and significance.The HERDS (Historic Environment Research and Delivery Strategy) specific objectives were:
Test Pitting identified Pleistocene sands in the centre and east of the Site, with four pits containing microfauna bones, 2 of which were high in quantity. There was also evidence of Post Medieval activity, consisting of furrows observed during the initial stripping of topsoil and subsoil in the area.
The data in this archive can be re-used for reinterpretation, further analysis and integration with other datasets (in particular the main archaeological work carried out at Sedrup Farm.
