Introduction

This collection comprises of images, spreadsheets and site records from an archaeological trial trenching carried out by Connect Archaeology between the 11th and 22nd of February 2019 at Widmore Farm, part of the Barton to Mixbury Cutting, in Oxfordshire.

Project Summary

The area subject to evaluation comprises one parcel of land, Fusion Site GIS Id. No.: C25040 (the Site). The Site was located to the north of the village of Newton Purcell, and to the southwest of the village of Finmere, within the Cherwell district of Oxfordshire. The features were mostly localised on the central area of Site, with exception of a gully found in the southeast part of the field. The features in the central part of the Site related to a depression, clearly visible in the landscape, a possible location of a sand pit visible on historical maps. The only feature found in this area of the Site, which was not connected with gravel extraction, was a small ditch. No finds were present.

Re-Use Value Statement

The Widmore evaluations archive can be considered as part of the wider HS2 archive and as such has re-use value.

The site did not identify any features of archaeological interest.
