This collection comprises images and a report from Historic Building Recording of the the cell block and tunnel at the Grade II Listed former Pontefract and Wakefield Magistrate's Court, Cliff Parade, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. This work was undertaken by Archaeological Services WYAS in February 2022.
This was done prior to the redevelopment of the building complex to complete the planning condition attached to the approved planning application 19/00393/FUL and 19/00376/LBC, condition 3.
Wakefield Magistrate's Court was formed by the amalgamation and extensive alteration of several municipal buildings in the 1970s. The building was first in use as a cloth hall in 1777 and went on to be a police station with integral cell block in c. 1878, and had a contemporary fire station.
