This collection comprises of images, spreadsheets and site records from a trial trench evaluation carried out by L-P: Archaeology at Sedrup Farm, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire between August and October 2019.
The trial trench evaluation is required to determine, as far as reasonably possible, the nature of the archaeological resource within the site. The evidence suggests there is a potential for the site to contain archaeological remains of prehistoric, Roman, medieval, and post-medieval date. These are likely to be associated with agricultural activity although there is a possibility that there may be some evidence for Iron Age/Roman settlement activity as suggested by the Cotswold Archaeology 2018 evaluation, which was undertaken directly to the east of the site.
The geophysical survey undertaken within the site has identified a number of linear features, the majority of which, are likely to be ridge and furrow. The LiDAR survey identified a number of banks across the site which may be former field boundaries or levees. In some cases, the ridge and furrow overlies these banks and therefore it is possible they have a pre-medieval origin. Evidence for post-medieval quarrying is likely to be found to the north of the site.
There is also the possibility that Pleistocene deposits containing artefacts and faunal remains will be found on the northern part of the site as fossils were found at Locke’s Pit (SMA042).
The datasets created in this project were used to prepare future investigation at Sedrup Farm. The final datasets will be integrated into those that will be produced during the new mitigation works.
