Introduction

General site shot: pre-excavation
General site shot: pre-excavation

This collection comprises images and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in June 2018 on land adjacent to 19-21 Brunswick Road, Gloucester. One trench was excavated.

A ditch and a possible well dating to the earlier part of the Roman period were identified cutting the natural at the base of the excavated trench. These features were sealed by Roman deposits, possibly relating to the use of the area for the Barton Roman Cemetery, although no burials (or any fragments of human skeletal material) were identified within the trench. These deposits were covered by a post-medieval deposit which was cut by a ditch of probable later post-medieval date.
