Introduction

The north-east corner of Naseby Hotel
The north-east corner of Naseby Hotel

This collection comprises images and a Written Scheme of Investigation report from a programme of historic building recording at the Naseby Hotel (formerly the George Hotel), Kettering. Work was was commissioned by Paul Simon Homes and undertaken by MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) in July 2021. The level 2 historic building recording was required prior to works being undertaken on the building for alterations inline with redevelopment and change of use from hotel to multiple occupancy accommodation, restaurant and parking, landscaping and associated works.

The Naseby Hotel is a large hotel complex located prominently on the corner of Sheep and George Streets in Kettering town centre, Northamptonshire. The interior of the hotel has almost entirely been remodelled during the mid to late-20th century when buildings of various ages were broken through to form a more consistently decorated hotel complex. Despite this, seven phases of construction and modification were elucidated during the investigation. While there have been structures on this site from the 16th century, the first phases for which there is substantive evidence dates to the 18th century.
