Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

This collection comprises geophysical data (unprocessed magnetometer data, a processed grayscale image, and archaeological and geophysical interpretations of the data) from a survey undertaken on land to the north of Lofshaw Hill by Eden Heritage Ltd. in May 2022.

Geomagnetic measurements were determined using a Bartington Grad601-2 dual gradiometer system, with twin sensors set 1m apart. It was expected that significant archaeological features at a depth of up to 1.5m would be detected using this arrangement. The survey was undertaken using a zig-zag traverse scheme, with data being logged in 30m grid units. A sample interval of 0.25m was used, with a traverse interval of 1m, providing 3600 sample measurements per grid unit, with measurements being recorded at the centre of each grid cell.

The geomagnetic survey was conducted on land to the north of Lofshaw Hill near Berrier to provide information in association with a proposed new woodland. The proposed planting area was believed to have archaeological potential due to the close proximity of a scheduled monument known as 'Roman Camp and section of Roman Road on Lofshaw Hill' and nearby associated Roman activity. A number of weak linear features were detected by the survey which were associated with land drains, and a concentration of anomalies was detected at the centre of the survey area which were interpreted as natural fluvial features. The geophysical survey detected no definite archaeological features which would need to be excluded from the proposed planting area.
