This collection comprises the site report and digital photographs from archaeological investigations on land at West Road, Lympsham, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset (NGR ST 3357 5392). The work was undertaken prior to residential development by AC Archaeology in March and November 2020.
The investigations uncovered evidence for archaeological features dating from the medieval and post-medieval periods with some use of the site during the Romano-British period. The medieval pottery finds indicate that the site was on the periphery of domestic settlement in the period potentially from the 10th-13th centuries through to the later Middle Ages. The ditches were presumably for drainage and the pits for rubbish disposal. There was also activity in the post-medieval period, most notably the digging of a large ditch.
The finds comprised a small number of sherds of Roman pottery, a larger assemblage of medieval and post-medieval pottery, an iron nail, a chunk of blacksmith's clinker, post-medieval or modern ceramic building material, a small amount of fired clay, a single piece of clay tobacco pipe, a bone needle, pieces of sea shell, a worked antler tine and other pieces of animal bone.
