Introduction

Exterior Church and Churchyard
Exterior Church and Churchyard

This collection comprises images from photographic recording at the Church of St Paul, Main Street, Witton Park, Bishop Auckland, County Durham. Work was undertaken by Church Commissioners for England in November 2019.

St Paul’s Church stands in the U-shaped main street of the village of Witton Park. The church is designed in the Early English style and is of traditional construction, with walls of random coursed small sandstone blocks with roughly dressed faces. The form is a standard medieval one of an aisleless nave under a plain pitched roof, here with a lower apsidal chancel.

The church was closed for regular public worship in February 2021 and recording was undertaken in advance of proposed redevelopment to secure the future of the building.
